Danube Competence Center - the regional tourism cooperation platform
The Danube Competence Centre is founded in February 2010 in Belgrade with the financial support of German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) in Serbia and its cofounders, among which – the Business Support Centre for Small and Medium Enterprises – Ruse, are representatives of tourist companies and organizations, as well as municipalities from Serbia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova and Ukraine.
As an association of members from the public, private and non-government sectors, the DCC contributes to the development, implementation and marketing of sustainable tourism products through conducting relevant projects and establishing new quality standards for tourism services. With a regional and cross-border focus on Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova and Ukraine, the DCC aims to create a single tourism brand for the Middle and Lower Danube region.
DCC is supported by a grant from the German Federal Ministry of Economic Co-operation and Development (BMZ), working through its agency, the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) - from January 2011 Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).
The Association Goals and Ways to Achieve Them
(extract from the Statute of DCC)
The Association is founded to achieve the following goals:
i) to contribute to the integration of interests, projects and activities in the field of tourism of the countries of the Middle and Lower Danube (hereinafter referred to as “the Danube region”);
ii) to participate in the development of long-term transnational cooperation in the field of tourism in the Danube region.
The Association performs the following activities to achieve the above stated goals. These include but are not limited to the following:
i) Identifying, supporting and bringing together the supported partners for planning and implementation of projects designed to achieve the stipulated goals;
ii) Designing projects which connect and strengthen the Danube Region;
iii) Supplying know-how for the implementation and execution of projects;
iv) Increasing the sustainability of projects by strengthening agents in the Danube region and networking them transnationally;
v) Promoting awareness of the Danube region (Danube conferences, supporting cooperation network of cities and regions, etc.);
vi) Building advisory and implementation capacities;
vii) Profiling and networking projects and institutions under the aspect of EU compatibility;
viii) Providing mutual consultation and brokering support between the various institutions, organizations and ministries;
ix) Transfer of good practices;
x) Supporting the application for and integration of third-party funds (EU applications, etc.);
xi) Running training programs on the development of planning and implementation skills of professionals.
